Chairman's Message
Wishing everyone a Very Happy and Healthy New Year!
What a super Christmas Meeting we had. It was a pleasure to meet so many Happy Yaverlanders. As you could tell I am a complete novice but even with the lack of a microphone I hope you heard most of my speech or even understood the gist of the message.
Accident Update: Unfortunately, on the following Sunday 17th December, I had a hot/cold/odd moment and had a fall right outside our home after walking Artie very early in the morning.
I have been a guest of St Mary’s ever since. Judy, from Yaverland Close, along with Stella found me and knocked on our door to let Gillian know. I was down for 2 hours before the Ambulance came covered by all sorts of could be blankets. Many thanks to Judy, Stella, and the gentleman (who delivers newspapers in our area) for waiting by my side until the paramedics arrived. I have broken my nose and my neck, badly bashed and bruised my body. I have regained feeling in my legs and feet and slowly started moving my left arm and hand. The right one is taking its time, but I am being told slowly slowly and a gentle improvement is happening daily.
Hospital Visits & Lifts: Gillian is visiting me daily now after having COVID and has had so many messages of encouragement and well wishes for me.
If anybody wants to visit, I've been transferred to Laidlaw Building, South End. Probably best to message Gillian (Tel.07766 535217) before visiting in case things change yet again.
Gillian does not drive so if anyone is driving into Newport for shopping/appointments it would be much appreciated if they could drop her off and return her home later. A sincere thank you to all the lifts and help offered so far.
Feb Social Event: Lynne Somerville will be standing in for me at the February get together as Gillian will be either visiting or looking after me.
Please take care and keep safe.
“I will be back” as per Arnie.
Leslie Ashby (Chairman of Yaverland Residents Association)
Rogers Buddy Service: Come along to meet Roger from Zoo House, a SAAFA volunteer, who offers a "Buddy Service" for those in need of a chat. He will be at our Cheese & Biscuit Event on 13 Feb, from 7pm @ Sandown Bowls Club.
Early Arrivals at Events: Please do not arrive at events before 7pm as this interfers with the setting up procedure. Doors will only be open to members at 7pm.
Sandown Bowls Club Parking: Please note parking is available for our social events under the trees (not in the council car park). Its IMPORTANT to register your car number plate on the Bowls Club tablet located by the entrance door. Anyone parking in the tarmac marked parking bays of the council car park have to pay at the machine.
